I didn't grow up in a Christian family and although we have a much loved Christmas tree and decorations we have never had a nativity set. But today all of that was put to right when my mum went out and bought one. And it's well pretty!
The different figures are all hand made and painted and have little scenes on their clothes. The angel (actually a separate piece) has the Holy Family, the shepherd has his flock and the angels, Joseph has an image of him leading Mary on the donkey, the first wise man has the shepherds and the angels, the second the three kings on their camels and the third the stare they all followed. Even the little donkey has a cross on his back! Of course the baby Jesus (who can't be separated from his crib unfortunately) isn't there yet. He's hidden away until after Midnight Mass. Not bad for our first set, eh?
What lovely crib figures!
ReplyDeleteWe hide our 'baby Jesus' too until just after Midnight Mass. We also keep our Kings or Wise Men away from our crib and move them closer until they arrive on the Feast of the Epiphany.
Well done Alison - it's lovely.
ReplyDeleteOur Kings approach slowly from the east!
